About Dog Soldiers (2002)

Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers (2002) reinvigorated the werewolf genre by pitting a squad of British soldiers on a training exercise against a pack of savage lycanthropes in the Scottish Highlands. The film plays like a horror version of Zulu, with the soldiers barricading themselves in a farmhouse while the werewolves—portrayed by performers in impressive practical suits rather than CGI—lay siege throughout the night. Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd lead a ensemble cast whose camaraderie and dark humor make them genuinely worth rooting for. Made for just $2.3 million, Dog Soldiers launched Marshall's career (he later directed The Descent) and proved British horror could compete with Hollywood.
